How we Teach

Our teaching method is both structured and immersive, blending deep online learning with hands-on application. Students progress through 12 areas of study, each with 7 stages from Pre-Stage to Mastery. Lessons are designed to build and retain skills or maneuvers, expanding the basketball mind as students advance.

Core

The bulk of basic development. Challenging fundamental skills and maneuvers. For high-school level and below.

Intermediate

More elite skills and maneuvers. Meant for students with a greater ability to process the game.

Advanced

The shorter area of study at BLD, where knowledge and purpose on the court teach truth about the game.

Gain knowledge. Develop purpose.

At Be Like David, we believe basketball is about solving problems or serving a purpose on the court.

It is not about vain repetitive drills.

Our online lessons teach skills and maneuvers through what we call The 3 Tenets.

The 1st Tenet, LEARN, is the key to basketball development and means to identify a problem or purpose on the court. This is the step most players are unwilling to take.

The 2nd Tenet is STUDY. In this tenet, students practice the skill or maneuver for an amount of time BEFORE they feel ready to apply it. Skills solve problems and maneuvers serve a purpose.

The 3rd Tenet, APPLY, means to solve the problem or serve the purpose taught in the 1st tenet; this is the goal of basketball development.

This style of teaching is called the Davidian Method, coined by Coach Robert. This is what we mean by "drills are not skills." Drills do not teach players to solve problems on the court nor understand a maneuver in the context of a game.

Beyond basketball, our mission is for students to begin to translate how they learn at Be Like David to not only the basketball court but to life. Where they begin to seek life skills and purpose off the court. If just one person can say after working with us they have become a better-minded individual, one who now seeks knowledge to solve their problems and purpose in what they do daily, well, that is the reason to choose Be Like David Basketball.

Shalom. 🏀✨
